20/20

20/20 is one of my favorite TV shows because it involves real life people. This Friday, 20/20 was about a shooting that really all started because of cyberbullying. A person posed as Aaron, typed on an Internet chat room that he was going to rape this 15 year old girl. Aaron never did type that and when he saw the girl at a party he was asked to leave by one of her friends, Dano. Aaron left, then she told Dano about the Internet chat room and he called up Aaron and went to his house. The situation is very sad because Dano ended up being shot and killed. The full story is on the 20/20 web site http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=4581800&page=1. Cyberbullying is a real problem and it can take lives. Children think cyberbullying is fun because they can “mess” with people and not get caught. The internet enables some students to say things that they would never say to a person’s face. Many students have committed suicide from cyberbullying and some states are taking action. I think only three or four states are enforcing cyberbullying laws and more states will soon. As teachers, it is important for us to educate to our students about cyberbullying and how serious it really is. Who would think a person posed as Aaron on the Internet would lead to someone dying? Enough children have died from cyberbullying, we need to be addressing the issue and try to make a change!
