The end of the semester!

I am glad this semester is finally coming to an end. This class has been a challenge because of some of the new tools we learned, but I can say I learned a lot. I really enjoyed writing these blogs because I love to write and reflect on what I am learning. My undergraduate major was sociology, so I enjoy researching and analyzing. I am at the end of my graduate program and I can say that not too many teachers care about reflection. Besides all the wonderful technology tools we learned, I learned an important aspect about using your own voice. This type of writing allows you make an opinion without being penalized which makes writing more meaningful for all students. Some students are shy in class, so it could be hard to assess what they are learning, but having a blog or any type of journal writing is beneficial. The core curriculum is extremely important, but make sure you the time to let students reflect on their knowledge, which in the long run will help them understand more content.

  1. Yes – and as I have said in class before, I love reading your blog posts. It is a little window into what and how you are processing and coping with new information and learning. Not everyone enjoys reflecting and perhaps the introspection required for a meaningful post, but it is in the reflection that things become clear, that questions arise, and that connections are made.

  2. I did my research paper on blogging and I have to say that I agree with what you are saying when it comes to a shy student. However, I do not think that blogging should be a replacement for speaking in class and in some ways it can hold the students back. If a student knows that will receive the same credit for writing a blog as they would for speaking in class then why would they speak in class when they can write a blog.
I agree with blogging and think it can be a great tool for any classroom but it takes a proactive teacher to make sure that blogging is an additional tool rather than a replacement. =)
